The 8th European Conference on Neutron Scattering will be held at Garching, Germany, from March 20 to March 23, 2023. ENSA is very happy that the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum offers to host and organize this gathering of the European community that ENSA represents!

ENSA joins ILL in the tribute to Hannu Muttka, who passed away earlier this year. Among the many scientific adventures he participated in and responsibilities he took upon himself, Hannu Muttka acted as the ENSA chair from October 2004 to October 2006. He shall be greatly missed.
Ferenc Mezei will receive the award “For the inventions of the neutron spin echo method and the super mirror, which have significantly advanced neutron scattering methods, and for the long pulse neutron source concept, which is the foundation for the novel technical design of the European Spallation Source now being built in Lund.”
Besides these, and many more qualities, we highly appreciate having prof. Mezei as the national delegate of Hungary for ENSA, and are grateful for his role as vice-chair in the board with prof. Alba-Simionesco.

As you may remember, QENS/WINS2020 could not be held as planned, and was postponed to 17-21 May 2021. In view of the development of the pandemics, we have rescheduled the face-to-face conference again.
We are happy to announce that QENS/WINS WILL TAKE PLACE IN SAN SEBASTIAN, DURING THE DATES 23-27 MAY 2022.
In the meantime, to keep the interest, update/exchange science and technology in the QENS community, we will celebrate in addition an online short version of QENS/WINS during the dates initially planned for the rescheduled event: 17-21 May 2021.
The QENS/WINS 2020 Conference will be celebrated in San Sebastian (Spain), from June 8 to June 12, 2020.
This event will constitute the 14th Edition of the QENS series and the 9th of the WINS workshops.
The main purpose of QENS 2020 is
to cover the broad spectrum of scientific activities related with the
investigation of dynamical processes in different systems using
quasi-elastic neutron scattering techniques. QENS 2020
will offer a platform for discussion and exchange of scientific ideas
among the experts in this field, and a general overview to newcomers
about the capabilities of QENS in exploring atomic and molecular motions
and relaxation processes of novel materials,
soft matter and biological systems. As a novelty, this QENS Edition
will explore and exploit the potential synergies between different
methods (including experimental techniques and simulations), in order to
face diverse scientific challenges emerging in different
WINS 2020 will cover innovative aspects of neutron instrument design. Progresses
spectrometer projects will be presented. As in previous editions, the
theme of “New idea, New concept, New design, New instrumentation for New
sciences” will be followed. New developments in the application of
polarization analysis, magnetic field, pressure,
or improvements in sample environments for soft matter systems will be
covered. Software for data acquisition, analysis and instrument
simulation will be also part of the program. In analogy with the spirit
of QENS 2020, the synergy with complementary methods
–in this case mainly with advanced simulations and extensive Monte
Carlo simulations—will be emphasized.
JCNS is glad to announce the JCNS Workshop “Trends and Perspectives in Neutron Scattering” that will take place in Tutzing (Germany) on the shores of the Starnberg lake, from October 13 – 16, 2020. The conference is organized by the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS), Forschungszentrum Jülich. As a unique probe for studying magnetism, neutron scattering matches the entire range of length- and time-scales relevant for many novel magnetic and electronic phenomena. The workshop is devoted to the area of quantum materials in all their forms.
The topics will include:
Frustrated spin systems
Nano and Heterostructures
Low dimensional quantum magnetism
Models of quantum magnetic systems
Quantum spin liquids
Quantum materials properties at high magnetic fields
Experts and users of neutron scattering will meet to discuss recent developments and trends in the understanding of the magnetic properties of quantum materials tackled by neutron methods and complementary techniques. The workshop will provide the chance to discuss current requirements and developments in such techniques with a particular focus on novel and upcoming experimental opportunities and scientific options and capabilities.
